Cicadas Love Baseball

Over the spring of 2024 in Illinois there was a larger than normal surge in the Cicada population, thanks in part to two broads emerging from the ground at the same time. While some areas only saw limited number of the insects, others saw them in large numbers. Although, nothing like a “black out the sky” type of swarm one foreign news agency was hoping to have me photograph for them.

However, like most living things they prefer being in a natural environment. With baseball taking up a lot of green space, the cicadas couldn’t seem to stay away from taking in a game or two. Here’s some of my favorite shots from the 2024 baseball season.
