Thirty-minutes before this photo was taken of his lifeless body, I held onto the hand of Michael Patton, a 17-year old boy, as he took his last breaths after he was shot three times on the street in front of my home, in Chicago on June 30, 2014. This image was part of a first person account I wrote for a front page story in the Sun-Times about my brush with homicide in Chicago.
