Throwback Photo Gallery: Football, Joliet Catholic Academy vs. Mount Carmel H.S., Aug. 26 , 2007
Joliet Catholic and Mount Carmel will be playing each other for the first time in 17 years when they meet at Mount Carmel on October 11, 2024.
There last meeting was on a Sunday at Soldier Field as part of a high school season-opener triple header. I was covering that game and the ending is still one of the most unbelievable finishes I’ve seen in 30 years.
With just under two minute left, Mount Carmel had managed to stop Joliet Catholic’s offense to get the ball back down 20-14. Starting at their own 10-yard line, the Caravan had a huge task on its hands. A lateral by QB Jordan Lynch, now the Caravan head coach, on what was a halfback option pass to Tim Brown fell short.
As the Joliet Catholic defense swarmed the crowd went wild. A perfect bounce put the ball in Brown’s hands and the swarming defense left K.C. Picard wide open for what would be a 90 yard TD pass by Brown. Mount Carmel would hit the extra point and win the game 21-20.
I interview coach Frank Lenti afterwards and he let it be know, he couldn’t take credit for that play it wasn’t how they planned it. A deject Joliet Catholic head coach Dan Sharp, was practicly speechless after the loss.
You can read what I wrote about the game here and view all the photos from it here.
JCA would go on to finish the season 13-1. Wining the 6A state title 49-7 over Lemont. Mount Carmel fell 28-21 in double-overtime to eventual 8A runner-up Glenbard North during the 8A Semi-final game.

Check out my Uni-Watch page. It’s full of different high school team jerseys. Some dating back as far as 1995. See if someone from this game represents the team this year.
